Reading & Writing Sites for Students

  • Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation Contents are taken from the “The Blue Book of Grammar and Punctuation”, Ninth Edition. The site features grammar & punctuation rules along with exercises & answers.

  • B.J. Pinchbeck’s Homework Helper contains over 700 links to sites that will help students with their homework.

  • Critical Reading shows you how to recognize what a text says, does, and means by analyzing choices of content, language, and structure. It shows you what to look for, and how to think about what you find.

  • Donna Shaw’s Business Writing General Writing Help includes punctuation and capitalization practice, and lessons on comparisons, modification, parallel structure, passive vs. active voice, and verb tenses.

  • Five Paragraph Essay Step by step instructions on how to write an expository essay. Features a variety of sample essays including explaining a process, comparison-contrast, explaining with examples, and cause and effect.

  • Paradigm Online Writing Assistant helps students with writing in a variety of areas including:  basic punctuation, six problem areas, choosing your subject, free writing, and basic sentence concepts.

  • Project Connect created by PBS, the site contains intermediate level online instruction for adults learning English. Students need to go through a free online registration before using the site.

  • Guide to Grammar & Writing Capital Community Colleges guide containing help for writing sentences, paragraphs, essays, research papers and more.

  • Writing Den Writing tips for sentences, paragraphs, and essays.

Math Sites for Students

  • AAA Math interactive arithmetic lessons. Unlimited practice is available on each topic which allows thorough mastery of the concepts. A wide range of lessons (kindergarten through eighth grade level) enables learning or review to occur at each individual’s current level.

  • Algebra Help is a collection of lessons, calculators, and worksheets created to assist students and teachers of algebra. Their equation calculator has solved over six million equations!

  • Interactive Mathematics Online Introduction to algebra features algebra postulates, function basics and simple graphing, kinds of functions, and function squashing. Introduction to geometry features lessons on points, lines, planes, and space, postulates and theorems,  understanding proofs, sample problems and a glossary.

  • Math in Daily Life looks at the language of numbers through common situations, such as playing games or cooking. Put your decision-making skills to the test by deciding whether buying or leasing a new car is right for you, and predict how much money you can save for your retirement by using an interest calculator.

  • Math.Com The World of Math Online. The site features interactive practice for all levels of math, along with math assessment, on-demand modular courses that target key math concepts, 24/7 live online tutoring, and expert answers to math questions.

ABE/GED Sites for Students

  • Barnes & Noble sells "McGraw-Hill’s GED with CD-Rom Study Program for the GED Tests. This book comes with a total of four full-length practice tests. It also features automatic marking and score analysis on the CD-ROM, including an additional diagnostic test that targets strengths and weaknesses.

  • 4Tests provides instruction on how to take and pass a variety of exams. The site includes free online practice exams for GED, SAT, ACT and AP.

  • GED Practice is a free service provided by Steck-Vaughn to familiarize learners with the types of items they will see on the actual GED test. By answering GED practice questions and getting feedback, students will develop a feel for the kind of reading, thinking, and problem-solving skills they will need to pass the GED test.

  • Literacy Link from PBS, helps adults build basic skills for lifelong learning. Links to GED Connection, Pre-GED Connection, and Workplace Essential Skills.

Florida Tutor Network and Florida Learning Network

  • Resources benefitting students, teachers, and parents in the State of Florida. Florida Tutor Network and Florida Learning Network are Web sites that provide tutoring and educational resources at no cost.

  • Florida Learning Network is designed for use by any district. (This includes Palm Beach County.)

  • Florida Tutor Network is designed for use by students, parents, teachers in districts that are members of educational consortia.  Click for consortia lists...
