Virtual Education

Palm Beach Virtual Community School provides GED online instruction, credits toward your diploma, in-service education for District teachers and classes to prepare you for the workforce. Classes are taken through the internet and available 24/7. It is education, work and life in the 21st century.

Course Descriptions for Virtual Ed Online 2008-2009

Algebra I 1200310 (1.0 Credit)
The purpose of this course is to develop the algebraic concepts and processes that can be used to solve a variety of real-world and mathematical problems.

American Government 2106310 (.5 Credit)
This is a half-credit high school course that takes a student through a virtual Washington, D.C. tour.

American History 2100310 (1.0 Credit)
This course has two purposes: (1) To gain broad knowledge of the American nation by focusing on political, cultural and economic factors that have influenced the events over the past 500 years in North America; (2) To acquire investigative skills necessary to evaluate a wide range of circumstances, synthesize effective solutions to problems, and evaluate outcomes.

Biology 2000310 (1.0 Credit)
This is a course with real relevance. It’s all about the living things on this planet, and the way they connect together. In this course, the BioVenture Travel Agency will send you on tours like Safari Quest, Classification Cruise, Genetic Park Excursion, and to the Egyptian pyramids. You’ll also perform a series of lab experiments right in your own home.

Computing for Colleges and Careers 8209020 (1.0 Credit)
This course is designed to provide a basic overview of current business and information systems and trends and to introduce students to the basic skills required for today's business environment. Emphasis is placed on developing proficiency with the fundamental computer applications of keyboarding and word processing (Microsoft Office suite) so they may be used as communication tools for enhancing personal and workplace proficiency in an information based society.

Earth Space Science 2001310 (1.0 Credit)
Students explore earth and space science concepts from four perspectives as they become a part of the exploration team. Students arrive at their own perspective through exploring the lands, skies, water, and universe.

Economics 2102380 (.5 Credit)
This is a half-credit high school course that allows students to learn how economics affects both their personal as well as professional lives as they travel through "Econ City."

English II 1001340 (1.0 Credit)
This sophomore-level course is designed around the theme of dreams; therefore, through the literature, students will take a look at people, real and imagined, who have tried to make their dreams come true.

English III 1001370 (1.0 Credit)
Using the theme of the newspaper; this junior-level course American literature written between the Early American period up to present. The selection of literature ranges from fiction and poetry to speeches, sermons, letters, and journals. Students will see where this literature fits in relation to the events and culture of the time period.

English IV 1001400 (1.0 Credit)
This senior-level one-credit high school credit course provides integrated education experiences in the language arts.

Geometry 1206310 (1.0 Credit)
This course is all about points, lines and planes and acquiring a basic tool for understanding and manipulating the real world. Throughout this course, students will be taken on a mathematical highway illuminated by spatial relationships, reasoning, connections, and problem solving.

Life Management Skills 0800300 (.5 Credit)
This course is about building decision-making skills and choosing a healthier lifestyle. Students will work their way through "signposts" in order to determine their direction in life and the consequences they may face.

World History 2109310 (1.0 Credit)
As participating members of a global community, students will understand the connections to the development of civilizations by examining the past to prepare for the future.
