What is the GED?

The GED is a battery of tests consisting of a written essay, as well as multiple-choice tests of Language Arts Writing, Language Arts Reading, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics. The GED tests do not measure recall; all test items require higher order thinking skills and the ability to comprehend, apply, analyze, synthesize, or evaluate written text.

The GED instructional program will prepare you for success on the GED tests. The GED tests measure academic skills that correspond to those of recent high school graduates. To pass the tests, individuals must achieve scores that are comparable to those attained by the top 70 percent of a recent sample of the nation's graduating high school seniors. Passing the GED test signifies the attainment of general academic knowledge and skills associated with high school completion.
