Register for ESOL Classes
Where can a student register
for adult ESOL classes?
The program offers classes all year. Adult ESOL programs
are offered in twenty-four community schools and several
off campus sites. Please refer to the
Palm
Beach Educator to find a school that is convenient and
a time that you would be able to attend classes. You can
begin classes whenever you are ready and attend as much
as you are able. It is encouraged that attendance should
be on a regular basis in order to learn English faster
What is expected at
registration?
Each adult school will inform new students about their
program. A new student will be required to fill out a registration
form. You will need your address, phone number at this time
in order to complete the registration form. At the time
of registration you will be require to take a language assessment.
Most students take a placement test to determine placement
in the correct class level. This assessment will be a Comprehensive
Adult Student Assessment System test. There will be both
a reading and listening assessment.
Why a CASAS assessment?
The English classes are free. They are paid by the government.
The government wants to know how much you are learning.
To show this, all students are given a pre and post CASAS
test during the year. This is not a test you should worry
about. It is measuring how much English you have learned.
What is important when I take the CASAS test?
- Please listen carefully to all the instructions
before starting the test.
- You can ask questions about how to take the test,
but not about the information in the test.
- Do your own work! We want to know how much English
you know, not the student sitting next to you.
- Relax, and answer the questions the best you can.
Remember, each time you take the CASAS test, you help
make it possible for all students to have free English classes.
