Welcome to Adult and Community Education
Adult and Community Education
classes provide opportunities to improve your skills for life
at home, at work and in the community. Community schools and
sites offer a variety of educational services for students of
all ages and stages of life.
The
Adult Education programs are listed to the left. Whether seeking
an opportunity to further your career, finish high school, learn
English, or enlighten your life, the classes provide quality
services, programs, training and instruction to meet your needs.
Classes include a wide variety
of interests such as art, cooking, crafts, dance, fitness, foreign
languages and computers. Click on the Community Educator graphic

Over 25,000 students
were served in the ESOL program

Education trained 65 new and prospective teachers in
Adult Education training methods, materials and
documentation

Education coordinated three regional Job and Career
Fairs providing opportunities for over 1,000 Adult and
Community Education students resulting in 165 placements

Education counseled 500 ABE/GED students regarding
various educational programs and post-secondary

Program Statistics
Did you
know that during the past year:

2,796 GED diplomas
were awarded

Six community
schools piloted the Exit Option program for seniors
who were unable to graduate in a traditional school
setting and graduated 88 of the 122 students that
participated
-
K-12 support
initiative, which is sponsored by the community
schools, is providing tutoring assistance for 108
schools through the District, adding up to $162,000
and 6,480 hours of tutoring assistance for FCAT
-
5,980 students
enrolled in Credit Lab, an increase of 6% from the
previous school year; 1,051 of these students were
seniors that were able to graduate as a result of
Credit Lab

Adult and Community
Education provides credit lab at 19 sites offering
30 courses of state graduation requirements and
electives, ABE/GED courses at 16 sites, Family
Literacy at 6 sites, and ESOL at 24 sites
-
Through their school
improvement plan, the Adult Education Center
developed single school culture by using the
"Achieve" model from CHAMPS to implement behavior
management campus-wide and adjusted the model to fit
the needs of the adult learner. The product was so
well received that the author of CHAMPS has
forwarded their plan to his national consultants to
use in trainings!
